Being able to readily speak with a LIVE customer representative on the phone instead of slogging through multiple numeric choices or otherwise being directed to a website for self-service has become a true luxury today.

 

It is actually surprising to us that more companies do not cut right to the chase with a real person instantly available like in days gone by. It certainly can be a brand differentiator within a product or service category.  The good will and word-of-mouth advertising alone would more than pay for itself.

 

Last week we needed a new iPhone and wanted to trade one of our phones in. Fortunately, we have an Apple Store here in Santa Barbara where the service is always spectacular. In less than 20 minutes we had a new phone up and running and we were out the door (with a sizable, on-the- spot credit for the trade in). WOW!!!  

 

Not everyone has an Apple Store in their town. But, Apple’s phone customer service is equally as good. We just needed to save some extra time and trade-in steps. Apple is the “Apple of Our Eyes” a true benchmark for what excellent customer service can be.

 

Excellent customer service is by far our #1 criteria when it comes to choosing vendors. What is yours?

I am all about having good reviews, responsiveness when I leave a text or a voice mail. Gratefully  we found a dependable Contractor, they did a number of projects for us in the past 20 months...Endre

 

p.s.: like you I get so annoyed with the 15 minutes of pushing buttons to get  live voice

Wondering if we are a majority or minority when it comes to being annoyed.  I literally have to psych myself up before making these kinds of calls because I do not want to pass my annoyance on to the person who finally answers. It is not their fault after all.

My annoyance meter with these phone rat mazes is - not high for a business or elsewhere.  I ran into one last week for an eye doctor and I never did get through after several tries and blah blah blah #s to push for this and that and this and that...!  Moved on to another one and got a live voice right away.  If we all ran our business like a bad rat maze our clients would not continued to ask us to help them time after time over the years.  It's all about referrals. But it appears many business do not get this important point, or they don't care or they've swamped with a lot of business so they think it's ok?

Reviews and personal referrals will make me contact them. Of course, they need to be able to do the prescribed work. Integrity will make me use or continue to use them. Lack of communication will make me drop them.

Hi Ron and Alexandra- I couldn't agree more about having a real, live person in customer service who will answer the phone. It is so frustrating trying to get help these days. And yes, when I choose any vendor or business, customer service is high on my list.

It is indeed rare to be able to connect with a company representative quickly.

I had the same experience with my local Apple store a year ago when I needed a new iPhone. It was a wonderful experience - seamless and quick, and a most pleasant surprise.

I absolutely hate going through all the numeric choices when calling a business just to be hooked up with someone that has been taught a bunch of scripts.  I would love the good old service that we used to have.  Great customer service is also right at the top of my list.
